E2 Treaty Investor Visa
The most common investor visa is the E-2 Treaty Visa. If you’re from a country that has a trade treaty with the US, you qualify for this visa. As long as you legally own 50% of the new business being established, are involved in the intraday workings and development, and contribute a substantial monetary investment–this visa may be a great fit for your business and immigration plan.
L1 – Visa Investors
If you work for an internationally-based company, and have the opportunity to immigrate as an “Intracompany Transferee” to or a new location in the US, the L-1 Visa is a wonderful option. One requirement of the L-1 Visa is that you must have worked for this company for a minimum of 1 year in the past 3 years, and the foreign business must have a related business in the US. In addition to these requirements, you must also possess specialized knowledge, or an advanced job title, such as executive or manager. While this visa is evaluated on a yearly basis, your employer has the opportunity to sponsor you in a more permanent green card immigration process.
EB 5 Visa Investors
If you have the financial capability to contribute a very serious and large investment to a commercial business in the US, the EB-5 Visa may be your best option. This visa gives you the ability to apply for a green card under the presumption that you will immigrate to the US to create or preserve 10 permanent full-time jobs for US workers. This visa comes with the highest levels of monetary commitment, as you must have the ability to not only fund your business and ten employees, but also prove that your business is viable with a thorough business plan. Costs often range between $1,000,000 and $500,000 (depending on where you wish to move).
Buy An Existing Business
Buying an existing business can be the quickest option to be in business and a good solution for a foreign investor. However, contrary to a franchise where you are helped all the steps of the way, once you have purchased your business, you will be on your own.
